65 Credits Beyond the Master's Degree

To be eligible for the Global Executive PhD by Research program, it is necessary to have already earned a Master's Degree, an age of at least 30 years, and a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in business management. In our Business School, the Global Executive PhD will be obtained through a program by Research via Distance Learning. This learning model allows you to have many advantages without leaving your professional and family commitments. The structure of the program consists on the completion of an original research thesis, carried out by the candidate autonomously and independently in a specific area of Business Management according to the available directions of study. The awarding of the Global Executive PhD at the Selinus University business school is based on the evaluation of the thesis content. In particular, in addition to the content also other factors are evaluated: the topic, the originality that emerges from the literature review, the neatness, the structure, and above all the candidate's capacity for autonomy in carrying out the research.
  This study program, which is "by Research" and via distance learning without classroom lectures but with the assistance of a coordinating supervisor, has a much lower cost than a Ph.D. done on Campus, which would be spread over 3/4 years of study. In fact, each credit costs only 45 euros, compared to about 250 euros for an on-campus program. Since 65 credits are needed, the cost of the program will be 2,925 euros all inclusive. A low-cost model developed by Selinus University to meet the community of international students who want to complete their education at the highest academic level, without taking economic resources away from their families and without spending a fortune. In case, for various reasons, the thesis would be insufficient to demonstrate the candidate's competence in the chosen branch of study, the development of additional reports or an interview with a specialized professor may be required. It is the candidate's option to send consultable references to the companies. The time to conduct the thesis ranges from a minimum of six months to a maximum of 24. Being the Business School of Selinus University, which also delivers PhD programs, we are often asked what is the difference between a PhD and a DBA program. Granted that, in our case, both programs are offered by Research and in distance learning; generally, the two degrees are considered equivalent in terms of academic value. Both theses have to meet the requirement of originality and innovation. However, there are some important distinctions that must be kept in mind.
One of the main differences is that the PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) program is considered an academic program and has a theoretical orientation, while the DBA (Doctor of Business Administration) program is considered a professional degree with a practical orientation. This difference mainly affects the research, which is approached in a different perspective: the PhD one with a more theoretical and academic focus, the DBA one, instead, with a pragmatic focus related to a more strategic and operational vision.
Students who decide to pursue a PhD, typically come from a master's program where they have already developed a thesis; however, the master's thesis usually does not have the "originality" requirement as the PhD does. Once the master's thesis is completed, the student who wants to continue his or her research in the same field of study, often on the same topic, so as to investigate beyond the theoretical boundaries, chooses to pursue a PhD program by pushing further into research, developing new theories, new models or frameworks. Often, through the completion of the master's thesis, the student develops an insight or awareness of the topic relevance; through a doctoral (PhD) program, he or she wishes to further examine and explore the topic scientifically.
In contrast, business people usually experience real managerial problems in their workplace; they devise strategies, build hypotheses for change, lead men, analyze financial investments. In short, they experience innovation through practical experience. A businessman, a manager, a professional, realizes that there may be a better way to deal with a given problem, a more efficient one. So he/she sees the practical need for a better solution, researching the problem from a pragmatic perspective. His or her DBA thesis will then be geared mostly toward investigating the global knowledge of business management to find a practical solution to a given problem.
Side notes
Historically, the MBA degree was considered the final degree in business studies. After that, those who wished to complete a PhD had to do so in business or another faculty. Business faculties simply did not meet the demand for doctoral-level studies. Most PhD programs at the time also had a requirement for a second or third language, and this was considered superfluous by the business schools. As a result, to satisfy both the new PhD candidate in business and the traditional academic stakeholders, North American schools decided to create the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program. This program would essentially meet the practical needs of business people and eliminate the language requirements at the doctoral level.
Since then, the DBA has grown as a doctoral degree, spreading around the world to an extent that it became equivalent to the PhD. However, the applied nature of the DBA persists, and many executive managers opt for this degree over the more academic PhD.

The thesis
In this context, the PhD thesis and the DBA thesis take on a different structure. The PhD thesis is traditionally based on a 6 chapters format that includes: introduction, literature review, methodology, data analysis, summary, conclusion and further study. In this thesis model, the PhD student demonstrates his or her mastery of the relevant topic and literature, as well as an excellent understanding of the various research methodologies that can be used to address the research question or hypothesis. Typically, this includes a desk and field research components. The data are then analyzed and implemented with new theories, models or frameworks being developed, so that conclusions and recommendations for future studies are highlighted. The student's main role is to examine theory and any "literature gaps" in order to develop new abstractions that fill these gaps.

In the area of Management in the current economic context, having a MBA certifying the skills of your company's operating field is essential, but attending a traditional course of study to obtain a traditional doctorate, especially for managers, professionals, CEOs and entrepreneurs, engaged in the world of work, is not easy.

WHAT DOES A MBA PROGRAM
(accreditation prior experiential learning) 40 credits

The main requirement to obtain a MBA (Master of Business Administration) via Distance Learning through the APEL system is to have at least 5 years of demonstrable professional experience in management. The program consists in agreeing with your supervisor a thesis to be carried out, of at least 50 pages, for review and evaluation by the academic committee of Selinus University. If, for various reasons, the thesis is insufficient to demonstrate the candidate's skills, further in-depth reports or an interview with a specialized supervisor may be required. It is the candidate's right to send consultable references from persons, institutions or companies.

 To access the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program you must have a Bachelor degree or equivalent .  If this requirement is not met, Selinus University may consider enrolling in a Dual Degree program (Bachelor + MBA).
In order to be admitted to the program, the candidate, through the A.P.E.L. assessment of the CV, must obtain at least 29 credits. The final thesis will be assessed 11 credits, for a total of 40 credits. The time to complete  the thesis ranges from a minimum of six months to a maximum of 24. The MBA is a most prestigious degree in management and can also be carried out in a specific Major, for example: MBA in Management, Finance, Executive Leadership, Banking, etc.

 Only first-class CEOs, the best professionals and the most qualified managers have a DBA that is considered the most prestigious title in the Executive field. To enrol in the MBA program by APEL you must have at least 5 years of experience in Management and at least 25 years of age. To register you must fill in the form at the bottom of the page and attach your CV. The CV validation process can take from three days to two weeks. Once the validation has been successfully completed, the candidate will receive a Provisional Certificate indicating the credits obtained and the proposal for enrolment without commitment to the Faculty of Business & Media of the Selinus University Business School.
